I came across this video on Vimeo, the supporting text shows how the creator Derek Dubois plays with narrative and aesthetic.
Contours is an experimental film that attempts to halt narrative continuity. An ode to Borges, the film centers on a young woman and her alcoholic partner and attempts to view “all possible outcomes” to this setup. While obviously that would lead of a film of infinite length, I settled on three.
1) The woman allows herself to be idolized by him
2) She leaves him
3) She kills him
Each “outcome” is demarcated with a different film aesthetic.
The juxtaposition between presenting styles is abrupt, which works weel in terms of experimental narrative. It’s something to think about whilst making my video, how giving authority and use of still/moving images changes the reading.
