Photographing my sanctuary

I realised it’s unfair of me to go into someone else’s personal space and photograph it without offering mine first, like in many of our phonar workshops we’ve learnt if you can’t tell your own story people won’t trust you to tell theirs. For a lot of fans their bedroom is their sanctuary, it’s where they interact with the media they love and it’s a private space in which on one can judge you. Here is a few images I’ve taken today, I lost the natural light pretty quickly so will shoot some more tomorrow.

Obviously the way I portray my sanctuary is not how I intend to photograph my final project, these images even use colours which resemble me, so the other images will be influenced by the subjects personality. They will also feature the subjet within in them so will have quite a different, more personal atmosphere.

Here’s a list of features and comps you can apply too…

Features:

“Photography Influenced by Art”

Art has influenced photography since its birth,
and although some people regard them as two
completely different mediums, we don’t. That’s why we
want to see your work that is influenced by art, or that
uses the techniques of a specific art movement.

“Toy Camera”

It is our belief that it doesn’t matter how much money
you have or how much your equipment cost you,
a talented photographer can produce interesting and
thought provoking images with even the cheapest of
cameras. So this is our challenge to you, using your toy
camera produce an image/aseries of images which prove
money can’t buy talent.

For anyone who isn’t sure toy cameras are simple
inexpensive film cameras, such as Holga or Lomo.

Competition:

“Story”

We love a good narrative at #PHOTOGRAPHY, for the
issue 3 competition we want you to take a line from your
favourite book and interpret it in an image/short series of
images. Submit your finished image to us along with the
quote it was based on and we’ll choose a winner 20th
October 🙂

Jades shoot

So the day started out amazing, Martina found 2 four leaf clovers on her way to meet us. Or this is what we thought. We had our first trial when, 3 shots in to Jades shoot the battery pack ran out, the only thing we could do was go and swap it, but it came in a pack with the lights. So me and Jade went to swap the lights and Rasma and Martina protected the equipment. After this things started to go well, gor Jades shoot I knew she planned on heavily editing, creating a Kaleidoscope out of sections of images. So we didn’t worry too much about composition, but more about creating beautifully lit areas.

Jade is keen to edit this piece herself, she has a clear idea of what she wants to achieve so I’ve offered by help but she seems to know what she’s doing. So here are some of the original images. I will out the edited one up when she sends it to me.
